The first affordable apartment project using Denver’s Revolving Affordable Housing Loan Fund has opened! Cuningham Group celebrated the Northfield at Stapleton Apartments’ grand opening celebration last Friday with community members, business leaders, and local officials including Mayor Michael Hancock.
Northfield at Stapleton houses 84 energy efficient units with a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom floorplans. The demand for affordable housing in Denver is so high that within a day and a half of leasing, all 84 units had been reserved. Residents will be calling it home later this week as move-in begins.
The Denver post quoted Getabecha Mekonnen, executive director of Northeast Denver Housing Center, in this article saying,
The development has a lot of best practice, sustainable and energy-efficient features that makes it a quality product. It is place based. Within walking distance from where we’re standing today, there are over 6,000 jobs, a shopping center with a full-service grocery store, pharmacy, movie theaters. Within a mile, we have the Stapleton transit station.
The three-story wood construction building was designed as an updated version of the 3-story walk up and modeled after a market rate rental housing located nearby. The development brings success with its marketability and increased livability of the units and design features. It also has a strong presence within the community.
There are many unique features in this development. Limited access, with four units per entry level, increases the opportunity for residents to interact with their neighbors. Units have high ceilings and nine-foot high windows, levering natural light and allowing it to flood into all areas of the units, enhancing day-lighting and decreasing energy cost/usage. Private balconies/patios, community room, and exercise equipment are just some of the amenities offers to the residents.
More information on the building’s design can be found on the Northeast Denver Housing Website here.
