The Central Avenue Small Area Plan provides a vision for the future of a dynamic three-mile corridor in northeast Minneapolis. The corridor stitches together nine urban neighborhoods and is the link between downtown Minneapolis and northern suburbs.
To ensure that the Central Avenue corridor accommodates growth without losing its valued character, the plan focuses on four particulars. It defines a core of high-density, mixed-use development that transitions smoothly to surrounding neighborhoods; it reinforces the corridor’s varied character by recommending future development based on existing patterns; it leverages the area’s renowned arts community with plans for physical expansion; and it demonstrates how potential build-out on three multi-block sites can transform Central Avenue while simultaneously reinforcing its identity.
