Louisville High School retained Cuningham Group to re-imagine its existing library to better accommodate current learning styles and technology. Together with school leadership, design options were explored to shift from traditional book-centered spaces to a library that serves as a cultural hub. The library supports both individual and group learning activities, formal and relaxed spaces, and connections between interior and exterior environments. The design cleverly enlarged the interior by reducing the space required for book stacks. This allowed for different kinds of learning spaces—including, private carrels, a genius bar for laptop use, touch-screen reference kiosk, two small discussion rooms, a lounge space, and a reception desk—while maintaining the ability to host presentations and larger gatherings.
