The Benedictine Living Community of Shakopee will be a senior living facility providing independent living, assisted living, and assisted living memory care. Located just two miles from St. Gertrude’s Health and Rehabilitation Center, this new facility will also be a Benedictine Health Systems (BHS) campus.
The space, which recalls the historic nature of Shakopee with a Modern Agrarian building style, is designed to keep residents active by physically connecting them to their surrounding environment. Upon entry, residents will be able to see through the building to a landscaped patio/garden area. Continuous trails and sidewalks enhance walkability and make the landscape and neighborhood easily accessible. Daylighting is a key component, providing residents and staff with daylit corridors, spaces and views to the surrounding nature. Additionally, biophilic design principles will be utilized throughout the project. In addition to demonstrating sensitivity to the resident and staff experience, optimization of these principles will improve health and well-being, and reduce stress. Additional amenities include a chapel/assembly space, wellness and fitness rooms, dining, club room, activity room, bistro, salon, and library.
