The new six-story tower is anchored by a 61-bed Emergency Department consisting of seven trauma rooms and three PODS of treatment rooms each with 18 rooms. The second and third floors each contain 24 adult medical/surgery beds and 20 adult ICU beds with a consistent layout enabling staff to better navigate throughout each unit. The layout is designed to promote high levels of efficiency, decrease patient anxiety, alleviate work-related injuries, and accommodate increased volumes of patients.

The upper three floors of the tower contain the Diamond Children’s Medical Center—the only children’s hospital in Arizona affiliated with an academic research center (University of Arizona, College of Medicine, Steele Children’s Research Center).
