New Construction, Elementary School, Flexible Learning Studios, Exploratorium
Galtier Elementary is a Saint Paul Public Schools Pilot Program for personalized learning, aimed at infusing education with technology through redesigned flexible learning spaces. Students utilize various tools such as iPads, laptops, and interactive white boards to engage in their own learning process. These spaces also provide students with multiple technologies and mediums to express themselves, to demonstrate what they’ve learned, and eventually become advocates for the custom and creative way in which they learn.
Cuningham Group worked with the school to replace traditional classrooms with bright, open and flexible “Learning Studios” allowing different grade levels to interact with each other as teams. This flexibility allows students to be grouped by skill level, rather than grade level; offering a unique classroom environment for collaboration. Spaces include “Breakout Rooms” for small group collaboration and multi-purpose rooms. The media center was expanded into an “Exploratorium” offering a hands-on approach to technology and creativity. This unique school environment helps shape and support the personalized approach to teaching and learning.
