New Construction, STEM, Sustainable Design

Cuningham Group’s design of this progressive science academy for middle and high school students facilitates the advancement of its graduates to be among the nation’s leaders in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). The project empowers students and teachers to work in a collaborative environment where creativity, contextual learning, and exploration are encouraged.

The building includes four “strands” of Technology, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Each strand is equipped with two labs and is wrapped around an open collaborative learning space. Other rooms in the building are designed for maximum flexibility and are designated “studios” to reflect the mentoring attitude among students and faculty.

The facility was designed to become the most energy efficient school in Cherry Creek School District, with operational costs at half those of similar facilities that meet energy code requirements. This building is a functional prototype of sustainability for students and future generations.
