The Public Private Partnership (P3) of Utopian Consulting, Cure International, and Cuningham Group conceived a message of unity that is central to the design concept and is the organizing force of the site plan, using nature as a healing, binding place for the community. The site plan weaves together a series of bars containing building functions at common outdoor garden spaces.
Each garden creates an opportunity for retreat to nature, shared community space, and a healing experience. Because of Calabar’s predominantly hot and humid climate, ventilation, shading, and use of protected outdoor space are essential. Sustainable design principles include wind energy collection for power, natural ventilation, and water conservation.
