Prospect North is a vibrant, walkable urban district characterized by an inviting framework of restorative and multi-functional parks, plazas, trails, and walkways which link the world-renowned Grand Rounds National Scenic Byway and other regional systems. It is envisioned that this district will host an integrated community energy system utilizing renewable fuels and innovative technologies to reliably meet the community’s energy needs.
Fourth Street serves as the main pedestrian connection between the University of Minnesota and Prospect Park Neighborhood, and primarily services both neighborhood residents and game-day visitors. The street presents a unique opportunity to convert a neglected, car-dominated corridor into a green oasis and pedestrian magnet in the heart of Prospect North. With a half-mile linear park interwoven with gathering spaces, raingardens, and learning opportunities, the street showcases multiple functions and reduces cost and pollution. The space can easily transform for multiple uses, from farmers markets and picnics, to community gardens and pre-game celebration space.
