Overlooking Lake Superior, Sixth Avenue East occupies a prime location near downtown Duluth. High-speed traffic on the wide, busy roadway creates a barrier between two neighborhoods and deters walking and biking. The Redevelopment Strategy supports the neighborhoods’ vision for a walkable, mixed-use commercial node by recommending redevelopment of the larger Sixth Avenue corridor. This initiative also meets the greater needs of local stakeholders, surrounding neighborhoods, and the city. Dense development and public open space in the corridor create a vibrant urban neighborhood with attractive places to live and work.
